Algonquin College opens new Heritage Institute with help from Perth Town Crier

October 21, 2011
Hundreds of community members turned out and braved the chilly fall weather to help Algonquin College officially open the new main campus of the Algonquin College Heritage Institute (Perth Campus). This new main campus will accommodate roughly 40 per cent more students in its 42,000 square foot footprint. The facility incorporates modern design with traditional materials, and serves as another example of the community's leadership in sustainable development, built to target LEED-Gold standards. The College will be accessible, open, bright and comfortable, and will include meeting rooms, quiet study areas, testing spaces, a counselling office, a welcoming cafeteria, modern library facilities, a fully equipped Personal Support Worker lab, and community access areas. Efficient shops designed for student safety with proper lighting and air quality control and will accommodate the growth of the specialty trades programming. This project will help to revitalize and expand the skilled workforce training capacity of the Algonquin College Heritage Institute located in Perth, Ontario. The expansion will help produce Eastern Ontario's workers and citizens who are trained and dedicated to building and restoring existing homes and buildings using sustainable skills and methods.
